Pager call via PLC

PLC

The main advantage is that
the PLC can automatically and immediately inform employees about important plant conditions without anyone having to constantly look at the plant or an operator panel.

Typical advantages:

  • Rapid fault reporting:  In the event of a fault, the responsible employee receives a message directly on their pager.
  • No permanent monitoring required:  The employee does not need to stand next to the machine or constantly look at an HMI.
  • Greater reach:  Especially in large production halls, the message can also reach employees outside the immediate plant area.
  • Clear allocation:  Different faults can be sent to different people or pagers.
  • 24/7 operation:  Particularly practical for shift work or on-call duties.
  • Less downtime:  The faster a malfunction is detected and dealt with, the faster the system can be running again.
  • Easy retrofitting: An existing PLC system can often be extended to include a notification function.

Example

A machine runs automatically. At 2:30 a.m., a malfunction occurs:

PLC detects fault → radio system sends message → maintenance technician's pager beeps → employee reacts

Without a pager, the employee would, for example, have to regularly check the HMI or wait for someone to notice the fault.

A pager is particularly useful when a PLC monitors a system, but the responsible employee is not permanently at the system.
